Before class

  • Try the quiz yourself first, so you can share your own code. It takes about ten minutes.
  • On a shared device, the last student's results stay saved. Show students where Start over is.
  • Put the six friendly names on the board: Doer, Thinker, Creator, Helper, Persuader, Organizer.

Hook 5 min

  1. "Raise your hand if you know what you want to be." Then: "Keep it up if you can name three jobs in that field you had never heard of." (Few hands.)
  2. "There are thousands of jobs, and most people find theirs by accident. Today you find some you would never have guessed."

Explore 15 min

  1. Students open Quiz and sort the 36 cards: Love it, Maybe or Not for me. Tell them to go with their first reaction.
  2. They pick up to three strengths, then answer the five How do you like to work? questions.
  3. They open My matches: their three-letter code, the hexagon, and careers ranked by fit. Each student taps at least two careers and reads the pay, the training and the "try it now" idea.
  4. Early finishers go to Explore and light up a cluster to see where its careers sit on the hexagon.

Make sense 10 min

  1. Show your own code on the projector and talk through one match you would never have picked.
  2. Explain the hexagon: types next to each other often go together (Doer and Thinker), and opposite types rarely do.
  3. Partners share their codes. "Did your top type surprise you? Which card was hardest to sort?"
  4. "Pay is a median: half earn more, half earn less. What else matters when you choose a career?" (Training time, where you live, what a day is like, whether you'd enjoy it.)

Apply 10 min

  1. Each student picks one match they had never heard of and writes three lines: what a day looks like, the training it takes, and one thing they could try this year.
  2. Partners find two careers in the same cluster with very different training. "Why might someone choose each one?"
  3. Students who want to can Print my results to take home.

Exit check 5 min

On an index card: your three-letter code, one career it matched that surprised you, and the training that career takes. Cards with a career but no training show who needs to go back to the career details.

Support and stretch

  • Support: read the cards aloud to a small group and let them sort with the 1, 2 and 3 keys.
  • Support: give a sentence frame for Apply: "A ___ spends the day . To get there, you need ."
  • Stretch: in Explore, compare two clusters. Which interest types does each one need most?
  • Stretch: interview an adult about their job and guess their three-letter code.

Short on time

  • The quiz and My matches only (15 min).
  • Then partners share one surprising match each (5 min).
